Accomplishing What Lasts

Scripture (NKJV):

“I am the vine, you are the branches. He who abides in Me, and I in him, bears much fruit; for without Me you can do nothing.”
— John 15:5 (NKJV)

Reflection:

This morning, as I was spending time with God in prayer, thanking Him and praising Him for His faithfulness and provision, I found myself saying something out loud that immediately stopped me in my tracks.

“Lord, thank You that with You I can accomplish anything. Without You, I can accomplish nothing.”

The more I reflected on those words, the more profound they became.

From a worldly perspective, people accomplish remarkable things. They build businesses, accumulate wealth, earn recognition, and leave behind impressive accomplishments.

But every earthly achievement is temporary.

This world is passing away. Every trophy gathers dust. Every title is eventually forgotten. Every accomplishment remains behind when we leave this life.

Jesus wasn’t speaking about worldly success when He said, “Without Me you can do nothing.” He was speaking about bearing fruit that lasts for eternity.

Without Jesus Christ—without the love of the Father and the guidance of the Holy Spirit—I cannot accomplish anything of eternal value. I cannot truly love as Christ loves. I cannot transform a heart. I cannot save a soul.

But with Him…

I can encourage someone who’s ready to give up.

I can comfort someone who’s grieving.

I can boldly share the Gospel.

I can be used by God to point someone toward the only Savior who gives eternal life.

One act of obedience may impact generations.

Imagine a teacher who faithfully loves her students every day—not only through instruction but through patience, integrity, kindness, and the quiet example of Christ. She may never know that one student noticed something different. Years later, that student surrenders their life to Jesus and begins impacting countless others.

That’s how God’s Kingdom works.

One faithful person.

One obedient life.

One conversation.

One act of love.

One seed planted.

God does the multiplying.

The same is true for each of us. A conversation today could become someone’s testimony tomorrow. A word of encouragement could keep someone from giving up. A simple invitation to church could begin a family’s journey with Christ that echoes for generations.

How many people perish because no one was willing to speak?

But how many are saved because one person simply said,

“Yes, Lord.”

We may never know on this side of eternity.

But heaven knows.

As I reflected on this, I also thought about the privilege God has given me through my work. Every day I have the opportunity to serve schools and work alongside teachers who invest in the next generation. While my profession is providing technology and audiovisual solutions, my greater calling is much bigger than what I sell.

Every interaction is an opportunity to encourage, serve with excellence, reflect the love of Christ, and plant seeds that only God can grow.

Technology may improve a classroom.

But the love of Christ transforms lives.

That is the work that lasts forever.

Encouragement:

Today, don’t measure your life by temporary accomplishments or worldly success. Measure it by your faithfulness to Christ.

You may never see the full impact of your obedience this side of heaven, but God does.

Remain connected to the true Vine. Love well. Serve faithfully. Speak truth with grace. Plant seeds wherever God places you, and trust Him with the harvest.

Because apart from Christ we can do nothing of eternal value.

But through Him, one surrendered life can change countless others forever.
