Are You Acting on Feeling or on Faith?

Scripture: 2 Corinthians 5:7 (NKJV)

“For we walk by faith, not by sight.”

Every day, we face a choice: Are we going to allow our feelings to lead us, or are we going to allow our faith to guide us?

Our feelings are real, but they aren’t always reliable. They change with our circumstances, our emotions, our exhaustion, and even the people around us. One day, we feel strong and confident. The next, we feel overwhelmed, discouraged, or defeated.

But here’s something we must understand: God never told us to follow our feelings. He told us to follow Him.

Think about how often we allow our emotions to determine our actions.

When we feel offended, we want to retaliate.

When we feel discouraged, we want to quit.

When we feel afraid, we hesitate to move forward.

When we feel unloved, we sometimes withhold love from others.

When we don’t feel God’s presence, we begin questioning whether He’s even listening.

But faith calls us to respond differently.

Faith says forgive, even when you’re hurting.

Faith says keep going, even when you’re exhausted.

Faith says trust God, even when you cannot see the outcome.

Faith says love others, even when that love isn’t returned.

Faith says God is present, even when you cannot feel Him.

Faith isn’t the absence of feelings. It’s choosing obedience to God regardless of what those feelings are telling you.

Jesus demonstrated this in the Garden of Gethsemane. He was deeply distressed by what lay ahead. Yet He prayed:

Luke 22:42 (NKJV)

“Father, if it is Your will, take this cup away from Me; nevertheless not My will, but Yours, be done.”

Jesus didn’t deny the anguish He was experiencing. He surrendered His will to the Father despite that anguish.

And that’s something we need to recognize in our own walk with Christ.

We aren’t called to pretend we don’t have emotions. God created us with them. But we cannot allow those emotions to become the authority over our decisions.

Sometimes obedience won’t feel comfortable. Forgiveness won’t feel deserved. Loving someone won’t feel easy. And trusting God won’t always make sense.

But faith isn’t about doing what feels right. It’s about doing what God says is right.

Here’s my challenge for you today:

Before you react to a situation, before you speak out of frustration, before you make a decision based on fear, anger, or disappointment, ask yourself one simple question:

Am I responding to what I’m feeling, or am I responding to what I believe?

Because spiritual maturity isn’t measured by how strongly we feel about God when life is going well. It’s revealed by how faithfully we follow Him when our feelings are telling us to do something else.

Your feelings may explain what you’re experiencing, but your faith should determine how you respond.

Walk by faith today, not by feelings.
