Are You the Man Your Wife Needs You to Be?
Scripture (CJB):
“Husbands, love your wives, just as the Messiah loved the Messianic Community and gave himself up on her behalf.”
—Ephesians 5:25 (CJB)
Reflection:
As men, we’re often taught that being a husband means being unshakable—strong, silent, and self-contained. But marriage was never designed to be lived behind walls. God calls husband and wife to be one, not distant partners sharing space. When we bottle up our struggles, pressure builds, and too often it spills out as frustration or harshness toward the very woman God gave us as our helpmate. Our wives can’t understand what we never share. Vulnerability isn’t weakness—it’s trust. And many times, our wives are stronger, wiser, and more gracious than we give them credit for.
Encouragement:
Leading like Jesus doesn’t mean ruling with force; it means loving with sacrifice, gentleness, and humility. Speak softer. Listen longer. Open your heart. Love your wife the way Messiah loves His people—with patience, grace, and a willingness to lay yourself down. And if you’ve missed the mark, remember this: it’s never too late to start. “His mercies are new every morning” (Lamentations 3:23). Today is a good day to become the man your wife needs you to be.
