Are You Truly Letting Go… or Are You Still Holding On?

Are You Truly Letting Go… or Are You Still Holding On?

“You will seek Me and find Me when you search for Me with all your heart.” – Jeremiah 29:13 (NASB1995)

In 2 Kings 13:14–19, we find a powerful moment between the prophet Elisha and King Joash of Israel. As Elisha lay dying, Joash comes to him in desperation. Elisha gives him a prophetic act to perform—shoot arrows and then strike the ground. Joash only strikes the ground three times, and Elisha becomes angry, saying:

“You should have struck five or six times, then you would have struck Aram until you had destroyed it, but now you shall strike Aram only three times.”
2 Kings 13:19

Joash limited the outcome of his own victory because he withheld his full effort. He didn’t go all in. He held back.

And here’s the question that hit my spirit this morning:

Are you truly letting go… or are you still holding on?

Let me be real with you. I quit smoking last week—8 days without a cigarette. On the day I decided to quit, I had six cigarettes left in my pack. And my first thought?

“I’ll finish these six, and then I’ll quit.”

But I stopped myself. I had just prayed for deliverance from this addiction—so why would I hold on to what I was asking God to remove?

Where was my faith if I needed to cling to a few “just in case”?

So I threw the pack away.

Not one left.

I let go.

Completely.

Family, surrender doesn’t come in half-measures. When we ask God for breakthrough, healing, strength, or deliverance—we have to give Him everything. Not what’s convenient. Not what’s easy. Not just the parts we’re comfortable releasing.

Everything.

We don’t negotiate with God.

We don’t say, “Just let me keep this one part…”

We don’t pray, “God, help me… but I’ll hold onto a little control just in case.”

That’s not faith. That’s fear.

True surrender is total.

Let me ask you:

  • Are you still holding onto a few arrows?

  • Are you still keeping your “last six cigarettes,” whatever they may be?

  • Are you still saying you’ve surrendered while gripping tightly to what you don’t want God to take?

If we want total victory, we need total trust.

If we want deliverance, we have to drop the chains—not just loosen them.

And I can tell you this today—not because I’m perfect, but because He is

I don’t have anxiety.

I don’t have worry.

Because I know my Father in Heaven has me.

And that knowing—that full surrender—brings peace that surpasses all understanding (Philippians 4:7).

Yes, I still wrestle with things.

Yes, I’m still being refined.

But when it comes to my trust in God—I let go.

Completely.

And now I ask you…

Do you believe He has you?

Are you truly letting go

or are you still holding on?
