Be Prepared

Be Prepared

We prepare for so many things in life. We save money in case of emergencies. We stock up for storms and natural disasters. We buy insurance, keep gas in the tank, and plan ahead so that we are not caught off guard. Preparation is wisdom—it’s a way of saying, I know something could happen, and I will be ready.

But when it comes to our prayers, how often do we fail to prepare? We ask God for blessings, yet live as if they’ll never come. We pray for a child, but never set up a nursery. We pray for financial breakthrough, but never open a savings account or learn to steward our money well. We pray for opportunities, but never build the skills or readiness to walk through the door when it opens.

James 2:17 (CJB) reminds us: “Faith by itself, unaccompanied by actions, is dead.” True faith doesn’t just pray—it prepares. When we prepare, we are telling God, “I believe You will do what You’ve promised.” Preparation is the evidence of faith.

Think of a Marine who never allows himself to be caught off guard, or a Boy Scout whose motto is “Be prepared.” They are ready for the unknown because preparation is part of who they are. In the same way, when we pray, let’s also prepare. Let’s make room for what God is about to do.

Are you preparing for the things you’ve asked God for—or are you sitting idle, waiting as if He were a genie who works by magic? Look around today. Maybe the blessing you prayed for is already here, but you haven’t recognized it—because you were looking left while God sent it from the right.

Reflection:

What is one thing you are praying for right now? What step of preparation can you take today to show God you are ready to receive it?

A deeper walk and to be used however. I’m leading worship at church, leading men’s Bible study, trying to lead my kids at home.

What a great perspective to have. I need to work on this myself.
