Born Into Sin Is No Reason to Live In Sin

Yesterday during a devotional I led with my men’s alliance, we were talking about the weight we carry — the burdens of life, leadership, and the constant battle with sin. I made a statement that needed correction: I said we aren’t born into sin. What I meant was that we aren’t born understanding sin.

The truth is, Scripture is clear — we are all born into sin. Psalm 51:5 says, “I was born guilty, a sinner from the moment my mother conceived me.” But being born into sin is no reason to live in sin.

When we surrender our lives to Christ, we are made new. Romans 8:9 reminds us, “You are not controlled by your sinful nature. You are controlled by the Spirit if the Spirit of God lives in you.” Once we know who we are in Him, we begin to live differently — we take our thoughts captive, renew our minds, and bring heaven to earth through our obedience and love.

I’m grateful for a brother who lovingly corrected me. That’s what true discipleship looks like — speaking truth in love and standing on the Word together.

Remember, no matter who delivers the message — a pastor, a leader, or an evangelist — always test it against Scripture. Like the Bereans in Acts 17:11, “examine the Scriptures daily to see if what is said is true.”

We may be born into sin, but through Christ, we are reborn into freedom.
