Choose Refuge

Choose Refuge

Scripture: “He who dwells in the secret place of the Most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty. I will say of the Lord, ‘He is my refuge and my fortress; My God, in Him I will trust.’”
— Psalm 91:1–2 (NKJV)

As I read these verses this morning, I couldn’t help but reflect on some recent conflicts my wife and I have walked through.

Instead of relying on my own understanding, I made the decision to seek refuge in God and let Him guide me.

What was interesting is that He didn’t give me every answer I wanted all at once. He simply gave me the first instruction I needed:

“Quitting is never an option.”

So I obeyed.

That was all I knew to do.

As each day passed, God revealed the next step, and then the one after that. But I had to be faithful with step one before I could receive step two, and faithful with step two before I could see step three.

That’s often how God works.

He doesn’t usually hand us the entire roadmap. He asks us to trust Him enough to take the next faithful step.

The key wasn’t that I had everything figured out. The key was that I sought refuge in Him instead of leaning on my own understanding.

This morning, while working out with my brother Travis, we talked about the workout streak I’ve been on. I told him the real test isn’t keeping the streak alive when life is easy. The true test comes when life gets hard.

When stress, disappointment, conflict, or exhaustion show up, will I retreat? Will I rely on my own strength and drift away from the disciplines I know I need? Or will I run to God, find my strength in Him, keep moving forward, and trust Him to fight the battles I was never meant to fight alone?

That’s the question for all of us today.

Will you fight this battle on your own?

Or will you seek refuge in the One who is your fortress, your strength, and your faithful guide?

Choose refuge.
Choose trust.
Choose God.

Blessings,
