Do You Have It?
Sometimes we confuse having something physically with actually having it to give. If you’ve got $1,000 in your bank account but it’s already set aside for your mortgage, you don’t really have it to give. The same is true with your time, energy, and attention.
God’s Word reminds us:
“If your brother who is in need comes to you, and you have something to give, don’t turn him away.” (Deuteronomy 15:7–8, CJB)
The key phrase is “if you have it.” That means taking self-inventory. Just because you could squeeze something in, doesn’t mean you should. If you keep pouring out to everyone, you end up being a poor friend to many instead of a true friend to a few.
Even Jesus showed us this principle. He ministered to thousands, but He poured deeply into twelve—and even more deeply into three. He didn’t spread Himself so thin that His impact was diluted.
So ask yourself today:
- Do I really have the time, resources, or energy to give in this moment?
- Am I being a faithful steward, or am I just trying to please everyone?
- Is God calling me to pour into this, or to direct them to another resource?
Being honest about “Do you have it?” helps you serve with excellence, protect your commitments, and honor God with what He’s entrusted to you.
🔥 Bottom line: Don’t spread yourself so thin that you end up being “half-there” for everyone. Instead, be fully present and faithful where God has truly called you.
