Focusing on What Is Broken Will Never Set You Free

Too often, we spend so much time focusing on what is broken in our lives that we fail to recognize what God is restoring.

We focus on broken relationships, broken trust, broken promises, past mistakes, disappointments, and wounds that have never fully healed.

And the longer we stare at what is broken, the more power we give it over our lives.

But here’s something the Holy Spirit placed on my heart:

You cannot walk in the freedom Christ has given you while continuing to live in the prison of what has hurt you.

I’m not saying we should ignore our wounds, pretend the pain never happened, or avoid dealing with what needs healing. I’m saying that there comes a point when we must stop allowing what happened yesterday to dictate how we live today.

Sometimes we become so consumed with trying to understand why something broke that we forget to trust the One who can restore it.

We keep revisiting the hurt, replaying the conversations, remembering the betrayal, and questioning what we could have done differently.

But here’s the question:

Are you seeking healing, or have you become comfortable living in your hurt?

Jesus didn’t go to the cross so we could remain prisoners of our past. He went to the cross to set us free.

John 8:36 (CSB)
“So if the Son sets you free, you really will be free.”

Freedom doesn’t mean everything that was broken will be put back together the way it was. Sometimes God restores what was lost. Sometimes He removes what was never meant to remain. And sometimes He changes us through the very thing that broke us.

But in every circumstance, He calls us to trust Him.

Stop focusing so much on what is broken that you lose sight of the One who makes all things new.

You cannot change yesterday, but through Christ, yesterday no longer has to control your tomorrow.

Today’s Reflection:

What broken thing in your life are you still holding on to that God is asking you to surrender?

Maybe today isn’t about fixing what is broken.

Maybe today is about finally allowing God to set you free from it.

Have a blessed day!
