Generosity That Opens Heaven’s Windows

In Malachi 3:10 (CJB) the Lord says:

“Bring the whole tenth into the storehouse, so that there will be food in my house, and put me to the test, says Adonai-Tzva’ot. See if I won’t open for you the floodgates of heaven and pour out for you a blessing far beyond your needs.”

This is the only place in all of Scripture where God says, “Test Me.” He invites us to try Him in generosity, to see how He pours back when we pour out.

Now, generosity isn’t just about money. It’s about giving your first fruits—your best—whether that’s your time, your service, your energy, or your resources. For me, my time comes first. Time is the one gift we can never earn back, and in truth, it’s far more valuable than any dollar.

Generosity is about meeting someone else’s need before your own. It’s about being dependable—when you say you’ll show up, you show up. My father always told me, “The one thing a man truly has in this world is his word. If he doesn’t have that, he has nothing.” And he was right.

Have you ever had someone go that extra mile for you? Just the smallest act of kindness—a ride, a meal, a hand when you were struggling—can make you feel seen and loved. That’s the same love God calls us to show others.

Jesus is the door that God has already opened. Through Him, the windows of heaven stand wide. And when we give freely, without regret, from a pure heart, we walk in that flow of blessing—not just for ourselves, but for those we serve.

So today, consider: When was the last time you gave your time, your presence, or your resources with no thought of return? If we want to reflect the Father’s heart, we must live open-handed. Because you simply cannot outgive God.
