Grace When It’s Hard to Give
We all love to receive grace—but giving it, especially when we feel it’s undeserved, that’s where our faith is tested. The truth is, none of us deserve grace. Not one. Yet, our Savior still offered it freely on the cross.
I was speaking to a sister in Christ recently who had been serving faithfully in her church. She gave her time, her heart, and her effort. But when leaders discovered that her first child was born out of wedlock, they shamed her and pushed her away. Hurt and angry, she told them exactly how she felt—and who could blame her?
But in that moment, I couldn’t help but think… what if her response had been one of grace instead? What if, rather than matching judgment with frustration, she showed the same mercy Christ showed us?
Because here’s the truth: when we respond in grace, we don’t excuse sin—we expose Christ. Grace doesn’t say, “You’re right to hurt me.” It says, “Even though you’ve hurt me, I choose to reflect the One who forgave me.”
Ephesians 4:32 (CJB) says,
“Instead, be kind to each other, tenderhearted; and forgive each other, just as in the Messiah God has also forgiven you.”
Grace is never easy. It’s a divine act through a human heart.
When we extend grace where it’s not deserved, we mirror Jesus on the cross—offering love where rejection stood, forgiveness where pain once lived.
So today, remember:
Grace isn’t about who deserves it. It’s about who gave it first.
