If You Think You Are Doing It, Are You Doing It?

There’s a quiet danger in the Christian walk: mistaking intention for action.

We can think we’re following Jesus because we read the Bible occasionally…

We can think we’re walking in love because we haven’t hurt anyone…

We can think we’re living by faith just because we believe in God.

But are we doing it?

James puts it bluntly:

“Be doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves.”

James 1:22 (ESV)

This is a sobering reminder that the Christian life is not a passive one. Following Jesus requires more than agreement — it calls for alignment. It’s not just knowing the truth… it’s living it.

We don’t serve to earn salvation — we serve because we have been saved. But if our lives never reflect the love, humility, and obedience of Christ, we have to pause and ask: Is my faith actually active — or just theoretical?

Jesus said,

“Why do you call me ‘Lord, Lord,’ and not do what I tell you?”

Luke 6:46 (ESV)

This isn’t condemnation. It’s a gracious invitation to move from thinking… to doing. From good intentions… to surrendered obedience.

So today, take an honest look at your walk. Where are you thinking you’re doing something spiritually — but not really living it out?

And remember: God’s grace empowers action. You don’t have to do it alone. The Spirit leads, convicts, strengthens — and walks with us every step of the way.

You are called, equipped, and loved. So don’t just think it — live it.
