Invite God Into Your Work

“And whatever you do, do it heartily, as to the Lord and not to men, knowing that from the Lord you will receive the reward of the inheritance; for you serve the Lord Christ.”

Why do so many people feel empty or dissatisfied with their work?

Their performance review may be good. Their boss may have no complaints. They may have a respectable position and earn a substantial income—yet something still feels missing. Others may be struggling to meet their own expectations. Sales are down, opportunities are not closing, and they cannot seem to regain their momentum.

The problem is often not simply the job. It is what we have made the job about.

We measure success by money, titles, recognition, quotas, promotions, and accomplishments. Although none of those things are inherently wrong, they were never designed to give our lives meaning. Money can provide comfort, but it cannot provide purpose. A title may describe your position, but it cannot establish your identity. A strong performance review may affirm your work, but it cannot satisfy your soul.

True fulfillment begins when we put God first and invite Him into our workplace.

Your job is more than a place to earn a paycheck. It is also a mission field filled with people whom God has placed in your path. Someone around you may be discouraged. Someone may be carrying a burden nobody else knows about. Someone’s child may be sick. Someone may desperately need encouragement, prayer, or simply to experience the love of Christ through another person.

When someone shares a burden with you, do not merely say, “I’ll pray for you.”

Stop and pray.

Pray with them right then. Pray out loud if the opportunity allows. Send them a message or email containing the prayer you prayed for them. Let them know you genuinely carried their need before the Lord. If you wait until later, another meeting, phone call, email, or responsibility may capture your attention, and you may forget.

We must still work diligently. We should honor our commitments, pay attention to the details, and give our employer and customers our very best. Scripture tells us to work heartily, as unto the Lord. But doing our best is about more than completing tasks—it is also about representing Christ in the way we speak, serve, encourage, and care for others.

If you want to leave work feeling fulfilled, do more than count what you accomplished. Ask yourself:

Did I show someone the love of Christ today?

Did I encourage someone who was struggling?

Did I stop and pray when someone shared a need?

Did I allow God to guide my words, decisions, and actions?

Success is not merely what you accomplished during the day. Success is also how faithfully you served God and loved the people He placed before you.

Before beginning your work today, pray:

“Lord, I acknowledge Your presence and invite You into every part of my work today. Holy Spirit, please guide my steps, guard my words, and direct my decisions. Help me recognize the people You place before me and the opportunities You provide to serve You. Let me work with excellence, not merely for recognition or money, but as an offering unto You. May I accomplish the assignments You have for me today and show the love of Christ everywhere I go. In Jesus’ name, amen.”

Put God first. Work as unto the Lord. Serve the people He places before you. That is where lasting success and genuine fulfillment are found.
