The other day, I was talking with my brother Randy as he worked on one of his intricate Lego builds—not the little sets for kids, but the really technical, complex stuff that takes hours, sometimes days, to complete.
While he was building, he ran into a piece that didn’t seem to fit. I joked, “Well, just modify it.” He laughed and said, “You can’t do that with these kinds of sets. Every piece is designed to fit exactly where it belongs. If you place one piece in the wrong spot—even if it seems fine at first—you might not notice until 25 or 50 steps later that everything’s off.”
And man… that hit me like a ton of bricks (no pun intended).
How often is that true of our walk with Christ?
We take one step off course. Maybe it’s a compromise. A moment of pride. A bitter thought. A hidden sin. And in the moment, it seems small. Harmless even. But down the road—three weeks, three months, or even three years later—we find ourselves wondering how we ended up so far off.
But just like with the Legos, there’s good news. Randy said, “All I have to do is back out the last 25 pieces, fix that one wrong piece, and everything else will fall into place.”
And it’s the same with God. We can’t always go back and undo the past, but we can repent. We can change direction. And we serve a God who specializes in taking what’s broken and making it whole again.
“In all your ways acknowledge Him, and He will make your paths straight.”
— Proverbs 3:6
You may feel like you’re 50 steps deep into a mess, but it’s never too late to let the Master Builder reset the foundation. With His grace, mercy, and your willingness to repent, your life can still be built according to His perfect design.
