“So I’m sick, and Meggan’s been taking care of me so much…”
That’s how my brother’s message started—and in just that one line, I could feel the weight of gratitude in his heart. He wanted to share something about the blessing of a loving wife, and it stirred something in me too.
You see, my wife is out of town right now with our daughter, and while you’d think I’d enjoy a little time to myself… I can’t sleep. I lie down, and my thoughts wander. Not in anxiety, but in emptiness. Because she’s not near.
I fall asleep so easily when she’s home—not because of routine or habit—but because her presence brings peace. It’s not about rest… it’s about wholeness. When she’s near, I’m complete. When she’s gone, I’m missing a part of me.
The Bible says, “and the two shall become one flesh” (Genesis 2:24). That’s not just poetic language. That’s a spiritual reality. When God joins you together in covenant, you don’t just get a partner—you gain a part of your soul. And when that part is absent, you feel it.
Even in our hardest seasons—when words were short and tempers flared—I never wanted to be without her. Even in brokenness, I still knew she was bone of my bone, flesh of my flesh. My other half. My helpmate. My blessing.
Marriage isn’t always easy, but real love isn’t measured by ease—it’s measured by presence. And today, I’m reminded just how sacred that presence is.
So if you’re married and reading this, thank God for the one He gave you. Whether you’re in a sweet season or a storm, hold on tight. Because when God gave you that person, He gave you a part of you.
