Set Your Affection Above

“Set your affection on things above, not on things on the earth.”
—Colossians 3:2 KJV

Where is your heart focused today?

It is easy to become consumed by the things of this world—money, possessions, success, recognition, problems, fear, and everything we believe we must accomplish. None of these things are guaranteed, and none of them can provide the lasting peace that comes from God.

This verse does not tell us to neglect our responsibilities. It reminds us not to allow earthly things to become the source of our identity, security, or happiness. Our jobs may change. Possessions can be lost. People may disappoint us. The plans we carefully make can fall apart. But Jesus Christ remains the same.

When our affection is set on things above, our priorities begin to change. We seek God’s approval more than the approval of people. We value eternal purpose over temporary pleasure. We choose forgiveness instead of bitterness, generosity instead of selfishness, and faith instead of fear.

Take an honest look at what has been occupying your heart and mind. Are you spending more time worrying about what you might lose than thanking God for what you have already received? Are you pursuing the things of this world while neglecting your relationship with the One who gave you life?

Everything on this earth is temporary, but what we do for the Kingdom of God carries eternal value. Keep your eyes on Christ. Let Him guide your decisions, direct your desires, and remind you where your true treasure is found.

Prayer:
Father God, help me set my heart and mind on the things above. Forgive me for the times I have allowed temporary things to become more important than my relationship with You. Reorder my priorities and teach me to seek Your Kingdom first. May my life reflect Jesus Christ, and may everything I do bring honor and glory to You. In Jesus’ mighty name, amen.
