Stay With Me, and You Will Be Safe

Scripture: 1 Samuel 22:23 (NKJV)

“Stay with me; do not fear. For he who seeks my life seeks your life, but with me you shall be safe.”

As I was reading through 1 Samuel, these words from David to Abiathar, the son of Ahimelech, really spoke to my heart.

Saul had ordered the slaughter of the priests of Nob, and Abiathar was the only one who escaped. He fled to David, and David told him something powerful: Stay with me, and you will be safe.

Think about that for a moment.

David didn’t tell Abiathar to go fight Saul. He didn’t tell him to gather his strength, sharpen his sword, or figure out how to protect himself. He simply told him to stay close.

And isn’t that a beautiful picture of our relationship with Jesus Christ?

We have an enemy who seeks to destroy us. Satan opposes Christ, and he wages war against those who belong to Him. But Jesus calls us to remain in Him, to trust Him, and to find our strength and protection in Him.

Yet how often do we try to fight our battles on our own?

How often do we stand our ground against temptation, fear, anger, pride, or the struggles of this world, believing we’re strong enough to overcome them ourselves?

Sometimes the greatest act of faith isn’t standing and fighting. It’s knowing when to flee and whom to run to.

Scripture tells us to resist the devil, but it also tells us to flee temptation. There’s a difference between standing firm in Christ and foolishly standing alone.

On our own, we are vulnerable. Our strength will eventually fail. But when we remain in Christ, we stand in the strength of the One who has already overcome the world.

Jesus never promised that following Him would mean we wouldn’t face suffering, persecution, or even death. But He did promise that no one could snatch His sheep from His hand.

John 10:28 (NKJV)

“And I give them eternal life, and they shall never perish; neither shall anyone snatch them out of My hand.”

Our safety in Christ isn’t the absence of a battle. It’s the assurance that the enemy cannot take away what Christ has secured for eternity.

So here’s my question for you today:

Are you trying to fight a battle that God is calling you to surrender to Him?

Are you standing alone, relying on your own strength, when Jesus is calling you to draw closer?

Abiathar had a choice. He could run from Saul and continue trying to survive on his own, or he could remain with David and trust in his protection.

We have a choice too.

Stop trying to fight every battle yourself. Stop believing you have to be strong enough to overcome everything on your own.

Run to Christ. Remain in Him. Trust His protection.

The safest place you can ever be is not where the enemy cannot reach you, but where the enemy cannot separate you from Christ.
