The Ten Commandments aren’t just ancient rules carved into stone—they are a living foundation for how we are called to walk with God and with one another. They represent His heart for order, love, respect, and relationship.
One commandment that is often overlooked in its depth is “Honor your father and your mother.” (Exodus 20:12)
Even Jesus, the Son of God—perfect, blameless, and sovereign—honored this command. In John 2, when the wine ran out at the wedding in Cana, Mary came to Jesus and asked Him to do something about it. Jesus responded, “Woman, why do you involve me? My hour has not yet come.” (John 2:4)
He wasn’t ready to begin His public ministry. But what did He do next?
He honored His mother.
He performed His very first miracle—not for fame, not to announce Himself to the world—but because His mother asked Him to. Even when He said it wasn’t His time, He still submitted out of love and honor.
That’s the power of the Ten Commandments. They weren’t just given to be followed—they were lived out, even by Jesus Himself.
Let us not forget the depth and beauty of God’s commands. They are not a burden; they are a blessing. They show us how to live in harmony with God and with each other. And when we follow them from the heart—not just the letter—we live more like Christ.
Reflection: Is there a commandment you’ve been overlooking? Ask God to help you honor it today—not out of duty, but out of love.
