The Way Out

June 5, 2025, 8:01 AM

We all face battles. Some are obvious—addictions, unhealthy habits, toxic relationships. Others hide in the shadows—shame, secrecy, silent compromises. The truth is, we don’t just “fall” into sin. Often, we walk right into it, knowing deep down we’re stepping into danger.

The Bible is clear:

“No temptation has overtaken you except what is common to mankind. And God is faithful; He will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, He will also provide a way out so that you can endure it.”

—1 Corinthians 10:13 (NIV)

There is always a way out.

But sometimes we don’t take it—not because we don’t see it, but because we don’t want it. We want the temporary comfort of the sin more than the eternal peace of obedience. We ignore the phone call to a brother in Christ, not because we forgot, but because we know he’ll talk us out of it. And in that moment… we don’t want to be talked out of it.

But real repentance begins with wanting to be stopped.

It starts when we pause, even for a moment, and ask:

“God, where’s my way out?”

Sometimes the “way out” comes before the temptation even begins—by staying away from the places, people, and situations that stir up the flesh. It’s easier to avoid temptation than to wrestle with it when it’s in your face.

We’re called to be a light in the darkness—not to make our home there.

You can’t live in the fire and expect not to get burned.

The good news? Jesus is enough.

The more we believe that, the more we begin to recognize that temptation doesn’t satisfy—it steals. But Christ gives. He fills. He frees.

So today, ask yourself:

What’s my “way out”?

And do I really want it?
