Voluntary Obligations
At Men’s Alliance, I’ve heard brothers say time and time again how much they look forward to showing up each week. It’s not a duty, it’s not forced—it’s what I call a voluntary obligation. When you love what you do, you don’t just have to do it—you want to do it.
The same applies to our daily callings—whether you’re a teacher shaping young minds, an administrator leading a campus, a vendor supporting schools, or a manufacturer creating tools that make education possible. If you bring God with you, carry purpose in your heart, and see your work as service, then the obligation becomes voluntary. It shifts from burden to blessing.
As Paul reminds us: “Whatever work you do, put yourself into it, as those who are serving not merely other people, but the Lord” (Colossians 3:23, CJB).
So today, ask yourself: Do I approach my responsibilities as a heavy load—or as a joyful opportunity to glorify God through what I do?
