We Grow in Grief, Not in Laughter
“Better to go to a house of mourning than to go to a house of feasting, since that is the end of everyone, and the living should take it to heart.”
—Ecclesiastes 7:2 (CJB)
Laughter has its place—it refreshes the soul—but it rarely shapes our character. Grief, however, has a way of slowing us down, stripping away what’s shallow, and pressing truth deep into our hearts. In sorrow, we listen more closely. We pray more honestly. We lean more fully on God. Pain becomes a teacher, and loss becomes a lens through which we see what truly matters.
God never wastes our grief. He meets us in it.
If you’re walking through grief today, don’t rush past it or numb it. Let God do His work there. Growth often comes through tears, not smiles. And remember—grief may shape you, but it will not define you. “Adonai is near to the brokenhearted” (Psalm 34:19, CJB). You are not alone in the valley.
