When the Realization Hits

Scripture:

“But God demonstrates His own love for us in that the Messiah died on our behalf while we were still sinners.”

— Romans 5:8 (CJB)

Reflection:

In Genesis, we see the moment humanity became separated from God — and the promise that one day the Messiah would come to remove that separation forever. Many ask why God waited so long to send the Savior. We may never understand every detail of His timing, but what we can grasp is the immensity of His love.

It reminds me of a commercial I saw for Disabled American Veterans. A woman was asked what she’d say to a veteran who lost a limb fighting for her freedom. She said she would thank him. When she turned and saw a real veteran standing behind her, reaching out with his prosthetic hand, she shook it and instantly broke into tears. The veteran gently asked why she was crying, and she said, “Because shaking your hand made it real. You were wounded fighting for someone you didn’t even know.”

That moment of realization hit her heart.

If we could stand in front of Jesus and see the wounds in His hands, His feet, and His side… if we could look into the eyes of the One wounded for our freedom before we ever existed… that realization would overwhelm us even more. Advent reminds us that God loved us so deeply that He sent His Son to take our wounds, remove our separation, and bring us home to Him.

Encouragement:

Take a moment today to let that truth become real in your heart. You are loved with a love so deep that the Savior bore scars for you before you took your first breath. Let gratitude rise up, and let that realization draw you closer to Him today.
