A brother in Christ recently shared a powerful statement: “The worst feeling is when you feel nothing at all. You’re not happy, you’re not sad, you’re not angry… you’re just there. Your mind races a million miles an hour, but your heart feels empty.”
That struck me deep, because I’ve seen it—many of us have lived it. We chase happiness, a spark, a feeling—something to fill the silence. But the truth is, this world will never give us lasting joy. That’s why so many people are lost in strongholds: overworking to avoid their pain, numbing with substances, escaping into pornography, entertainment, even seemingly innocent things like crafts or hobbies—anything to avoid the real issue.
The real issue is identity.
When we don’t know who we are, we search for something—anything—to make us feel alive. But true life isn’t found in the temporary. It’s found in Christ.
“In your presence there is fullness of joy; at your right hand are pleasures forevermore.”
— Psalm 16:11
Joy is not an emotion—it’s a fruit of the Spirit (Galatians 5:22).
It’s Jesus living in us through the Holy Spirit, producing peace, contentment, and love even when everything around us feels numb.
You may hurt. Life changes. People fail. But joy doesn’t depend on your feelings or your circumstances. Joy flows from knowing whose you are.
And when you stop making life about you, and start making it about Him and others—you’ll find the purpose you’ve been longing for. Jesus didn’t come to be served, but to serve (Mark 10:45). He gave His life so we could live—not just exist—but truly live.
So if you feel nothing today, don’t chase a feeling. Chase Jesus.
Let Him remind you:
You are seen. You are loved. You are His.
And in Him, there is joy that cannot be stolen.
