Where Is My Seed?
Scripture:
“The seed sown among thorns stands for someone who hears the message, but it is choked by the worries of the world and the deceitful glamour of wealth, so that it produces nothing. However, what was sown on rich soil is the one who hears the message and understands it.”
— Matthew 13:22–23 (CJB)
Reflection:
When most people hear the parable of the sower, they naturally think of themselves as the one scattering the seed. They think about where the seed lands—on the road, on rocky ground, among thorns, or in good soil.
But sometimes we need to read that parable from a different angle.
Sometimes, we are the seed.
We have to stop and ask ourselves:
Where am I right now?
Am I planted in good soil and growing?
Am I sitting on rocky ground, where I have no depth?
Am I stuck among thorns, being choked by distractions, pain, fear, or the cares of this world?
Or have I found myself lying on the road, vulnerable and exposed, needing help to get where I belong?
The beautiful thing is this: God often uses more than one person in the process.
Sometimes you are the one planting.
Sometimes you are the seed being planted.
And sometimes you are the one God sends to help move a seed.
A seed on the road may only need a little nudge to reach good soil.
A seed caught in thorns may need someone willing to come alongside it, lift it out, and help place it where it can finally grow.
Not every part of the process belongs to the same person. God uses many hands in the work of growth, healing, and restoration.
So today, do not only ask, “What seeds am I sowing?”
Also ask, “Where is my seed?”
And if you see someone stuck where they do not belong, do not ignore it. You may be the very person God is using to help move them into better ground.
Encouragement:
Take heart today. Ask God to show you where you are in the parable. If you need help, do not be ashamed to receive it. And if you see someone struggling, do not assume your role is only to walk by. Sometimes the greatest act of love is helping a seed get to the soil where it can finally grow.
