You Don’t Have to Act on How You Feel
I woke up crabby again this morning.
I could feel it almost immediately. I was irritated, short-tempered, and just not in a great mood. But then I had to remind myself of something simple:
Just because I feel a certain way doesn’t mean I have to act that way.
Our feelings are real, but they don’t have to be in control.
I can wake up irritated and still choose kindness.
I can feel frustrated and still choose patience.
I can feel angry and still choose love.
I can be having a bad morning without making it everyone else’s bad morning too.
That’s part of walking in the Spirit. We don’t deny what we feel—we decide what gets authority over how we respond.
“For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, these are sons of God.” — Romans 8:14 NKJV
The flesh says, “This is how I feel, so this is how I’m going to act.”
The Spirit reminds us, “You still have a choice.”
This morning, I chose not to act crabby toward the people around me simply because I felt crabby. And you know what? Sometimes obedience starts with something that small.
You may not always be able to control the feeling that shows up, but through Christ, you can control what you do with it.
Don’t let a temporary feeling determine how you treat the people God has placed in your life.
Choose love. Choose patience. Choose kindness. Choose to walk in the Spirit.
